Similar to previous cohorts, the new student body is diverse, with individuals originating from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Germany, USA and Zimbabwe. After an introductory week that included a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant with senior students and alumni, as well as an academic excursion to the African Union Commission, the students are currently enrolled in courses at IPSS.
About the programme
In 2012, IPSS/AAU and the University of Leipzig launched the Joint Master's Programme in Global Studies with a special emphasis on Peace and Security in Africa. This came about as part of AAU’s internationalization objective and counts as the only joint programme offered with a German university in Africa in the social sciences. Globalization processes have implications for security in Africa, and linking Peace and Security to Global Studies creates an opportunity to analyze both the spacial and global dimensions of peace and security in Africa. The total number of students in the programme come from 27 countries, represent 4 continents and 56% are female.
